I was a rock star who gave up fame for general practice

Dr Paul Nisselle.

Well, if a No 1 hit qualifies me for that appellation…

I started a singing group when still at school in the early 1960s. That was the era of the protest singer — Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Joan Baez and many more.

The ’60s also saw the blooming of pop and folk music, with the New Christy Minstrels, the Weavers, the Kingston Trio, and, of course, Peter, Paul and Mary.

When my group was formed, we sang both protest and folk songs. We performed lunch-time concerts at school. There were four of us, so we called ourselves “The Foremen”.
