If I were a young GP, I couldn’t survive on bulk-billing without sausage-machine medicine or cheating the system

Why is 100% bulk-billing by GPs considered the Holy Grail for healthcare in Australia?
We pay for food, water, clothing and shelter, which we need to survive.
But does 100% of the community need healthcare to be free at the point of service when the rest of that list of human essentials is rarely free at the point of service?
We’ve lost the PR campaign that started with the introduction of Medibank in 1975.
