This isn’t burnout. It’s abuse… with cries for help from both parties

I recently attended a child health protection talk as part of a suite of education sessions. The speaker was excellent — engaging, articulate and a veritable goldmine of experience.
She provided the audience with a series of examples as to why, even if we are solely adult health practitioners, child health protection is still an important part of our practice, and our responsibility.
It was the day that the papers were starting to take notice of what had been swirling on the medical socials for days, the blog post from Sydney-based surgical registrar Dr Yumiko Kadota, who wrote about how her unaccredited training position “broke her”.
While I was waiting for the session to start, I flicked through some of the mainstream articles covering Dr Kadota’s experience, so it was at the forefront of my mind as the talk began.
