Medicine has a culture of shame – we need to change it

A Wednesday night, chilling out watching Colin from Accounts: a medical student called Ashley, a man called Gordon, and a dog called Colin. Entertaining, easy Aussie humour and a unique story line. The perfect unwinding type of show.
Ashley is a typical student: highly intelligent and getting by within the poverty of full-time study and unstable rental housing. She has recently broken up with a long-term boyfriend and is navigating a difficult relationship with her mother.
In one episode, she is having a particularly rough day and happens to be doing a perineal repair — unsupervised.
During the process, she sustains a needle-stick injury and tiredly advises the new mum and her partner — who proceed to berate for being incompetent.
