Dystopian times: In 1984 I was a medical student and young mum who didn’t know what a GP was

I wasn’t aware back in 1984 that a publication called Australian Doctor had been born that would become an amazing source of fulfilment for me as a contributor.
The juggling act I faced was studying third-year medicine with a two-year-old daughter and trying to adjust to the Australian culture and its language as a new immigrant.
I remember interviewing a patient who said he was “crook”.
“It doesn’t matter what crime you may have committed,” I told him, “I’m here to help you with your medical condition.”
