Generic drug makers in countries like India and China are selling substandard medications all over the world, faking data and internal documents to do so, according to a US journalist.
Katherine Eban says she started to look into the issue after a pharmacologist told her his patients complained their generic medications were causing unwelcome side effects and disease relapses.
"What is wrong with the drugs?," he had simply asked.
The question led to a nine-month investigation during which Ms Eban unearthed the disturbing, unethical and intentional practice among some generics' manufacturers of producing poor quality medicines for profit.
