My patients needed hospital care. So why did I feel guilty about sending them to ED?

After a long Monday, I collapsed on the couch with a late dinner. I was tired, but I also felt flat and slightly dissatisfied with my workday.

I felt I hadn’t done a good enough job.

What had gone wrong?

At times, I’d run a bit late and kept patients waiting. However, I tried to catch up and mostly succeeded. Patients had been understanding about delays, and I felt that the delays had been largely unavoidable if I was to practise good medicine.
