This year has driven home to me how difficult life can be for our migrant patients

Dr Sunny Patel

As some of you are aware, I recently moved to the UK for a year.

Many of my challenges in relocating, albeit temporarily, have led me to reflect on the experience of new migrants.

I’ve long felt empathy for migrants facing grief, sacrifice, loneliness, ostracism and regret, all while wrestling with paperwork and starting anew (whether it be securing shelter or rebuilding their careers).

I’ve always taken pride in spotting someone who’s lost or confused and helping them out by offering directions, advice and so on.
