Naked moonlight bathing: Why do intelligent patients choose mumbo-jumbo ‘cures’ over science?

Patients who don’t believe in science puzzle me.
I was reminded of one recently, after Dr Pam Rachootin wrote about being tired of patients harbouring lunatic conspiracies.
In my case, the patient always came across as lovely and intelligent, but I knew she was into so-called ‘natural therapies’.
So it was with great reluctance that she presented to me with a four-week history of painful swollen joints.
