Peter Dutton’s nuclear plan is a threat to our patients’ health

Opposition leader Peter Dutton’s scheme to build seven nuclear reactors has raised concerns about the high cost, the ongoing excess atmospheric carbon as we wait for them to be built, and the threat to national security.
But there has been precious little conversation about what nuclear reactors would mean for human health.
While we might not have to worry about serving three-eyed fish at dinner, understanding the health implications should inform our opinions on this issue as we head towards the federal election.
The most glaring health concern is the result of the 20-plus years it would take for nuclear to come online, thereby extending our reliance on coal, oil and gas.
