Press ‘one’ for healthcare: Will vending machines take over as GPs brace for extinction?

Dr Pam Rachootin.

For too long, vending machines have languished in dark corridors, dispensing soft drinks and fat-filled snacks, contributing to the obesity epidemic.

In a revolutionary program, community vending machines (VMs) will be co-opted to deliver new product lines and thereby surmount the barriers that have hitherto prevented VMs from contributing to the health of our nation.

VMs will be restricted to offering no more than 50% of their usual content of junk food, with the remainder of their product line reserved for medication.

In the first instance, SGLT2 inhibitors will be stocked right next to the very foods that have contributed to their demand.
