Some patients are really helpful – others not so much

I hold a special tenderness for patients who try and help make my job easier. Their efforts can be so earnest, albeit sometimes misguided.
A 40-year-old woman presented with a history of severe cramping during her most recent menstrual cycle. She brought me a specimen of menstrual debris, mucous and clot wrapped in toilet paper.
She carefully unfolded the toilet paper and popped it on my desk.
In my most professional demeanour, I give it a thoughtful look to appear to be appreciative of her attempt to show me the glob, such that I might glean what I may from it.
