Take note Trump – public health usually wins out in the end

News in the time of COVID-19 has seen many a dispute, fiercely fought, over the importance of the people’s health versus a plethora of other deities; the economy, liberty, and the right to be an idiotic leader.
I admit to feeling completely bemused by the pictures of speedo-clad demonstrators, jumping fences and attempting to outfox the establishment, to ensure their freedom to walk across some nice yellow sand and take a dip at our Bondi.
We have seen chilling demonstrations in the US, where people have taken to the streets with machine guns proudly brandished (COVID-19 celebrating at this delightful new reserve of tightly packed, rampantly comorbid, and completely unmasked humans to infect) refusing to allow public health to suggest that they should stay at home to, you know, protect themselves and their loved ones, from this nasty bug.
Now I’m not without some appreciation of the medical risk inherent with the lockdown, I know that the impacts on mental health, physical health, financial health – and most importantly too much wine and Netflix related chubbiness – has already declared itself, and will continue to take its toll for many years to come.
