Not just about sex: The case for funding access to sex workers under the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme aims to fund all the supports needed to improve a disabled person’s quality of life.

It is separate from the Disability Support Pension, which exists to help cover the basic costs of daily living and is administered by Centrelink.

A very small number of beneficiaries have been successful in obtaining access to sex therapists as part of their NDIS package.

A woman with multiple sclerosis whose requests were refused appealed to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and won her case, with the judgement being upheld in the Federal Court.
