The wild reason an orthopaedic surgeon was calling about my patient’s breast biopsy

Dr Meryl Broughton.

Timing can be everything in making the diagnosis of a rare condition.

It was the weekend, so my patient presented to the local hospital ED.

Back in those days, we rural GPs in the town worked in all corners of the Country Health Service’s regional hospital as well as at our private GP clinics dispersed over the nearby countryside.

I hadn’t been rostered in the ED on Sunday and found her on my routine ward round before my medical centre’s opening time on Monday morning.
