The wisest doctor I ever knew and my patient Fred — more of my medical heroes

In an article for Medical Observer last year, I wrote about two legendary surgeons from my medical childhood.
Both were old-school practitioners from times long gone — which may be a good or bad thing depending on your particular perspective.
But there are others, including the wisest doctor I ever knew…
Mr John Bryant Curtis was a neurosurgical giant in Melbourne from the 1950s to the 1960s. His initials were JBC, which is why he was nicknamed “Jesus Bloody Christ”.
