Weight loss drugs and blindness: How far do we need to go with informed consent?

This one is serious and a must-read for any GP who prescribes GLP-1 receptor agonists.

When it comes to consent, the law requires medical practitioners to inform our patients of the general risks of the therapy we recommend and, importantly, any material risks.

Failure to do so could result in a successful medical negligence claim.

A material risk is one that any reasonable patient would likely consider to be significant for them, or one the doctor should be reasonably be aware would be significant for the patient.
