Why would you ever use the ‘top doctor’ label when it’s such b*ll*cks?

In my youth, modesty and understatement were regarded as virtues.
Professional organisations such as the AMA had strict rules about advertising and marketing.
A doctor interviewed by a newspaper or radio reporter made sure that he, or occasionally she, was referred to as Dr Smith or Professor Smith.
Any claim of superiority resulted in a dressing down, or worse, from the medical board.
