What GPs say matters, so choose your words wisely

Dr Rachel Lakemond

We’ve all had a patient come in appalled or horrified about how another doctor has treated them.

Most of the time, they just vent to you, and that is the end of it.

There is often no medical reason for the conflict. It is related to a mismatch of ideas, concerns or expectations â€” the result of a communication gulf between doctor and patient.

Sometimes, it’s because an eccentric personality has been taken the wrong way.
