What’s your type of heart-sink case? This is undoubtedly mine

General practice is a broad church. It is not possible to be good at everything. I find it hard enough to be okay at a few things.
Ditto, it’s not possible to like all aspects of general practice. For no logical reason, I can happily deal with patients with alcohol and drug dependence without becoming too grumpy.
I have some sympathy for drug seekers who drift from one practice to another, behaving appallingly, telling fibs, trying to score some pills to which they are addicted and where the first script may have come from a practice not unlike my own.
I like seeing kids, although I think I am not the only GP who, as they get closer to the finish line, sees more and more oldies and fewer and fewer little ones. I like seeing oldies. I admire them.
