The current debate around nurse prescribing in general practice has prompted me to reflect on my own experiences working with nurses.

I have had the good fortune to work with many tremendous practice nurses over my working life. I support the concept of expansion of their duties to include an element of prescribing for the benefit of patients.

Cultivating a respectful and trusting working relationship between GPs and practice nurses is needed for a superior model of patient care. Patient feedback points to an appreciation of this dual input into their healthcare.

I only see patients benefiting further with well-supervised nurse prescribing.
