Why those ‘Big Brother’ letters about my practice need a rewrite

Big Brother

In the build-up to Christmas, I received two ‘Big Brother’ letters in the same week.

NPS MedicineWise relayed that I continue to prescribe fewer opioids than my peers. Great news, I hear you say â€” roll on the New Year celebrations.

Not so quick … keep that champagne on ice: the second letter, from the Department of Health, was more of a sore point for me.

It stated that, according to 2018 MBS data, my musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging requests were 80% higher than that of my peers for six items: low back CT, neck MRI, shoulder X-ray and USS, knee X-ray and hip ultrasound.
