With my retirement looming, this is what I’ll miss about being a doctor — and what I won’t…

Dr Jon Fogarty.

As retirement beckons, I am left to ponder some of the highs and lows of a career in general practice.

The highlights do not include the occasional (rare) brainiac diagnoses. These are recorded in a very (very) slim volume for later review.

The lowlights are recorded in the near-miss register, a somewhat bulky document, and in the bull’s-eye register that I keep hidden behind the bookshelf.

There have been many highlights. The ones that stand out particularly involve the kindness shown to me by others. I will give two examples.
