What felled this footy player?

A 25-year-old male rugby player presents to ED with left thigh pain and swelling.

The symptoms have been worsening for several hours, after another player landed heavily on his thigh during a tackle.

At presentation he is in excruciating pain but able to partially weight-bear.

There is no obvious deformity but there is palpable thigh swelling. X-rays of the leg are normal. He is diagnosed with compartment syndrome and undergoes fasciotomy (pictured).
