5 recommendations for treating antiphospholipid syndrome

New guidelines for the management of antiphospholipid syndrome in adults have been published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases with low-dose aspirin, warfarin and heparin being recommended therapies.
Common clinical features of the syndrome include venous thromboembolism, stroke, recurrent early miscarriages and late pregnancy losses, write the authors of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) guidelines.
After a systematic review of the evidence, 12 rheumatologists, two obstetricians, two vascular thrombosis experts, another healthcare professional and two patients came up with their list of recommendations.
Three types of antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) have been associated with the syndrome: lupus anticoagulant, anticardiolipin antibodies and anti beta glycoprotein I antibodies.
