For patients undergoing abdominally based autologous free-flap breast reconstruction, increasing BMI is associated with higher rates of breast and abdominal complications, according to a study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

US doctors at the University of California, San Francisco, conducted a retrospective chart review of 365 patients who underwent abdominally based autologous free-flap breast reconstruction at their institution between 2004 and 2021.
