Osteoporosis screening may be useful for preventing fractures in patients with type 1 diabetes who have certain risk factors, including kidney disease, researchers say.

Their study has demonstrated that kidney disease, poor glycaemic control and advanced glycation end product accumulation are independent risk factors for lower hip bone mineral density in older adults with type 1 diabetes (T1DM).
