Tai chi may be as effective as conventional exercise at reversing central obesity or slowing its progression in middle-aged and older adults, a study suggests.

A trial that included more than 540 people aged 50 and older showed that participants assigned to either tai chi or a traditional exercise program trimmed a similar modest amount off their waist circumferences, according to the report published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
