Chronic cough and vocal cord dysfunction ‘often co-occur’

Chronic cough is a common feature of vocal cord dysfunction and should be considered when managing the condition, Australian researchers say.

In the first study to comprehensively characterise cough in vocal cord dysfunction (VCD), 51 people with VCD referred to the speech pathology department of the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, NSW, were compared with 39 patients referred for chronic cough.
