CT angiography boosts PCI success in chronic total occlusion: trial

The success rate of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusion is improved by performing coronary CT angiography (CCTA) beforehand, trial South Korean results show.
The Korean CCTA-CTO study assessed the value of preprocedural CCTA on the success rate of PCI for chronic total occlusion in 400 patients.
Half the patients received PCI guided by preprocedural CCTA and half — the control group — had their procedure guided by normal angiography.
The PCI success rate was higher in the group with preprocedural CCTA compared with the control group (93.5% vs 84.0%), reported Dr Sung-Jin Hong of Yonsei University College of Medicine, in Seoul, and colleagues.
