Doctors challenge Australian postmenopausal bleeding advice

Australian guideline advice that endometrial thickness of 4mm is the threshold for further investigation has been questioned by a group of Queensland doctors.
The doctors argue that using a lower cutpoint for endometrial thickness as measured on vaginal ultrasound would bring better sensitivity and specificity.
This would bring Australian guidelines into line with current literature and guidelines from the European and Japanese medical oncology societies that both use 3mm, the authors say.
The Gold Coast doctors carried out a retrospective analysis of more than 4000 endometrial biopsy samples carried out at the Gold Coast Health Hospital Service between 2011 and 2015.
