Embryo screening test promises boost in IVF success rates

However, it's only suitable for embryo cycles created using ICSI

Australian IVF researchers have developed a non-invasive means of screening embryos before implantation that could improve the chances of a successful pregnancy, particularly for older women.

The $495 per embryo test, known as Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A), was launched this week at Monash IVF clinics after being clinically evaluated in two trials.

The new testing method can only be used on embryos created via Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).

Whereas current genetic biopsies extract some of the embryo cell mass, the DNA for this test is extracted from the culture media the embryo grows in.
