A global registry has been set up to record cases of new-onset diabetes in people with COVID-19, leading researchers have announced.

Professor Paul Zimmet, of Monash University in Melbourne, is one of two principal investigators who will oversee the registry, which aims to both inform immediate clinical management and in the longer-term, offer insights into the natural history of diabetes related to COVID-19.

In a letter to the New England Journal of Medicine, Professor Zimmet and coauthors note that there have been reports of new-onset diabetes in people with COVID-19.
