Australia’s first uterus transplant recipient could give birth next year, doctors report

Doctors who carried out Australia’s first uterus transplantation say their 30-year-old patient has already reported menstruation and could give birth as soon as next year.
Kirsty Bryant from NSW was the first Australian woman to undergo the pioneering procedure after her 51-year-old mother agreed to be her live donor last year.
Ms Bryant told Nine’s 60 Minutes in February she believed she would never carry another baby due to an emergency hysterectomy during the birth of her daughter in 2021.
This month the surgical team led by gynaecologist Dr Rebecca Deans, from the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney, published their findings in full, including the surgery protocol and the complications that followed.
