Hope for diabetic retinopathy? The big news from the American Diabetes Association conference

Professor Alicia Jenkins says there are currently no approved treatments to slow progression of the early stages of retinopathy in type 1 diabetes.

Last month, thousands of endocrinologists and academics attended the American Diabetes Association’s 84th Scientific Sessions in Orlando, Florida.

Among those in attendance was Melbourne endocrinologist Professor Alicia Jenkins, who is head of the diabetes and vascular medicine laboratory at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.

Professor Jenkins speaks to Endocrinology Update about her research in diabetic retinopathy, the expanding role of incretin mimetics and gliflozins, and improvements in diabetes management.
