Hydroxychloroquine shortages ‘hit patient health’

AusDoc brings you the latest news from the American College of Rheumatology virtual congress 2020.
Shortages of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine early in the COVID-19 pandemic led to 6% of rheumatology patients on the medications being unable to obtain them, which measurably affected their health, a study shows.
Speaking to delegates at the ACR Convergence, the virtual congress of the American College of Rheumatology, Emily Sirotich of McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, reported data from an online patient survey.
Nearly 9400 patients with rheumatological diseases worldwide (mean age 46, 90% female) completed the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance’s Patient Experience Survey, launched in April 2020, she said.
