Insulin pump not essential to benefit from continuous glucose monitoring

Real-time continuous glucose monitoring is superior to self-monitoring of blood glucose, regardless of the insulin delivery method, a study of suboptimally controlled people with type 1 diabetes shows.
In a repeat analysis of three-year results from the trial known as COMISAIR-2, updated with an additional 29 patients, four different treatment strategies for type 1 diabetes were compared by Czech researchers.
The 94 adult participants were allocated to either continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) or self-monitoring.
Each group was further divided into two — one half using multiple daily injections to provide their insulin, while the other half used an insulin pump.
