Leading specialists recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours

Doctors who played a key role in combating COVID-19 have been given special mention on a pandemic honour roll

Top doctors who helped steer Australia through the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Brendan Murphy and Dr Jeannette Young, have been recognised with the highest honour in the Queen’s Birthday list.

Professor Murphy, former Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer now Secretary of the federal Department of Health, and Dr Young, former Chief Health Officer of Queensland, who was recently appointed the Governor of the state, have each been appointed as a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC).

The honour was bestowed for their “eminent service to medicine and public health”.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant was also appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
