Medicinal cannabis advertisement: AusDoc statement
In the previous edition of the Psychiatry Update newsletter, we carried an advertisement for medicinal cannabis by a company called BHC and their product CanView.
The advertisement stated that medicinal cannabis was a treatment option for a range of specific conditions, but then added that it “may help” in the treatment of various mental health conditions, including anxiety and schizophrenia.
This statement should not have been published on the AusDoc website.
The Queensland branch of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists contacted us stressing its concern around promoting claims in relation to medicinal cannabis and mental health conditions for which there is little supportive evidence, especially in the treatment of schizophrenia.
