Being more restrictive in use of blood transfusions in anaemic patients with acute myocardial infraction (MI) is at least as effective as more liberal use of transfusions, trial results show.

The findings of the REALITY trial, presented at the European Society of Cardiology’s 2020  virtual congress (ESC 2020) this week, resolve a controversy, the authors say.

Two earlier small trials had come up with conflicting results.
