More trials needed for ultrasound in chronic joint pain

There is insufficient evidence to make definite recommendations on the settings or duration of therapeutic ultrasound for chronic pain in major joints, say the authors of a systematic review, who call for more research on the topic.

The US researchers scoured the literature for randomised controlled trials testing the effectiveness of therapeutic ultrasound for chronic pain of any cause in adults with knee, shoulder or hip pain of at least three months.
