Novel catheter-based system shows promise in acute PE

Percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy with a novel proprietary device shows encouraging results in patients with acute intermediate-risk pulmonary embolism, researchers say.
In a paper published last week, lead author and interventional cardiologist Dr Thomas Tu, of Baptist Health Louisville in Kentucky, US, and colleagues reported on 104 patients who were treated with the FlowTriever System (Inari Medical).
Most patients (90.4%) presented with site-assessed bilateral PE; 44.2% had a simplified PE severity index score of at least 1.
The mean time for the procedure was 94 minutes and the mean intensive care unit stay was 1.5 days. However, 43 patients did not require any ICU stay.
