Organ transplant recipients risk multiple skin cancers: study

Recipients of organ transplants face an increased risk for developing multiple skin cancers, a US study shows.
The findings highlight “the importance of diligent dermatology follow-up,” the researchers write in JAMA Dermatology.
The team carried out a retrospective cohort study using two large US health record databases.
Among nearly 7400 organ transplant recipients (OTRs) in the Optum database and some 134,000 in the Truven Health MarketScan database, 4.5% and 13.3%, respectively, had evidence of at least one skin cancer treatment.
