Poly-use of nicotine products ‘an underestimated hazard’

New nicotine-containing products such as e-cigarettes are driving ‘poly-use’ of nicotine, presenting a hazard for respiratory and metabolic health, an expert says.
Speaking at the European Respiratory Society international virtual congress (ERS 2020), Professor Charlotta Pisinger of the University of Copenhagen and the Danish Heart Foundation, warned there was a fast-growing group of consumers using more than one product or device.
New-generation products including e-cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, snuff, snus and nicotine pouches were all non-combustible but highly addictive due to their nicotine content, she noted.
