Poor lung function in an elderly person might presage cognitive decline over the next decade or so, a UK study suggests.

Dr Yutong Cai, from the University of Oxford, presented the results of an analysis of data from the English Longitudinal Study of Aging (ELSA) to delegates at the European Respiratory Society international virtual congress (ERS 2020) this week.

More than 6100 members of the 2004-05 wave of ELSA were included n the study. All had extensive data on cognitive function measured at baseline and at least once more between 2006 and 2017.
