Punch biopsy could be avoided with ‘one-stop-shop’ imaging for BCC

Non-invasive imaging for diagnosis could mean faster and cheaper treatment, a successful non-inferiority trial suggests
Light micrograph of basal cell carcinoma.

Optical coherence tomography-guided diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma could replace punch biopsy in about two-thirds of suspected cases, according to Dutch researchers.

Results from the first head-to-head trial of its kind suggest that the non-invasive imaging tool is as safe and effective as the gold standard of punch biopsy in this clinical setting.
