Takotsubo cardiomyopathy ‘followed AstraZeneca vax’

An elderly man developed takotsubo cardiomyopathy after his first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, doctors have reported.
The condition brought his ejection fraction down to 37% but had completely resolved by day 10, they said.
The man, 72, had been well but presented to the ED at Northern Hospital Epping, Melbourne, four days after vaccination with AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, Vaxzevria.
He complained of retrosternal chest pain and associated dyspnoea. His heart rate was 99bpm, his BP was 130/65mmHg, but he was afebrile, the doctors wrote in BMJ Case Reports.
