Higher intake of vitamins A, E and D are associated with better respiratory health, a study shows.

Consuming more vitamin A and E in the diet and from supplements, and getting vitamin D from supplements, were associated with a lower risk of self-reported respiratory health complaints, UK researchers report in BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health.

The authors examined intake of vitamins A, E, C and D â€” nutrients known to support immune-system function â€” in more than 6100 adults who participated in the UK’s National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS) rolling program for 2008-16.

Some 33 reported respiratory complaints.
