Moderate tricuspid valve regurgitation is likely to progress and the opportunity to replace the valve should be taken in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery, US researchers say.

While it is common practice to perform a tricuspid repair in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery (MVS) who have severe triscuspid regurgitation, doctors are uncertain whether to perform concomitant tricuspid repair in patients with moderate or mild regurgitation, the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2021 virtual meeting heard.
