Why cardiologists choose to specialise in heart failure

Cardiologists who specialise in advanced heart failure are enthusiastic about their diverse case load and patients, but feel that they are overworked and underpaid, according to an international survey.
Furthermore, despite women being relatively common in the subspecialty, there are inequities in pay and opportunity for advancement, female respondents report.
The 18-question survey was emailed to 1000 heart failure cardiologists who were all members of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
Just under one-quarter completed the survey.
